I also would like to see video RAM instead of the M1’s shared RAM, which sure is fast, but straight video ram is going to be faster, and better for high end.
Of course I am on the side of wanting support for PCI based GPU’s, as Apple has does not have any experience making high end pro graphics cards, and I would be much happier having that than a ramped up iPad chip, unless they really ramp it up significantly. It is a powerful machine, and it will answer the question of if Apple is going to have external GPU’s or rely on their on chip M1 Graphics for their Pro machines. It works perfectly on my 2018 Mac Mini running Big Sur - very simple plug & play as Im not using the bundled SoftRAID XT software. As the article says the iMac Pro could easily have been a stopgap machine while they waited for the new MacPro, but having one I can say I am happy there will be a new one. the next beta will have support for Apple Silicon. Now I had to upgrade to use it on Big Sur (which was my goal from the get-go). The bottom line to all of this is that the only way to reliably RAID drives in Big Sur is to use a hardware RAID solution. The current SoftRAID 6.0 b42 beta is intel only. I personally do, I would wait until the second release, let the worst bugs shake out. In DSM>Control Panel>File Services>Advanced I ensured that Bonjour discovery was enabled for both SMB & AFP. I kept AFP enabled even though it has been deprecated in Big Sur.

OWC does not have an official position on whether users should update to Big Sur. In DSM>Control Panel>File Services>SMB/AFP/NFS select SMB Advanced Settings and set maximum SMB Protocol to SMB3 and minimum to SMB1.
