But, you're dealing with fewer pellets in the load, so pattern density becomes questionable sooner, and you still have the problem of being able to hit what your shooting at at that range. There is a tremendous difference between shooting at 40 yards and shooting at 60, and most people cannot consistantly hit at 40.īBs for geese will penetrate a good way longer than 65 yards, again if they're started at 1500fps. The second, and more important part of the equation, is YOU need to be capable of putting the pattern on the bird at that range. You need to be able to deliver a pattern of about 90 (100 is better) well distributed pellets in a 30 inch pattern at that yardage for it to be effective.
That said, the #2s, provided they are good quality and are started at 1500fps should have the penetration to kill mallard sized ducks at 63 yards. The thing to remamber is that you need penetration and pattern density BOTH for an effective load.
